Mellifloral specializes in melissopalynology, the study of pollen in honey. We identify botanical sources for honey, verify the geographic origin of honey, and help beekeepers understand how their bees are using the local landscape. We offer a variety of services to fit your melissopalynology needs and provide fast results.

We offer various levels of pollen analysis, ranging from basic lists of primary pollen types to detailed quantitative analysis with percentages of major and minor pollen types. Our one-page reports are easily understood and can be shared with your clients and other interested parties. Additionally, we provide a QR code for honey labels which link to the report in our Mellifloral database.

Mellifloral founder, Dr. Angelina Perrotti, earned a Ph.D. from Texas A&M University and has over 10 years of melissopalynology experience. She was trained by the prominent palynologist Dr. Vaughn Bryant and is excited to build on his legacy of offering pollen analysis to the beekeeping and honey community.

What Makes Us Different

What Makes Us Different

Our pollen extraction procedure includes acetolysis, a chemical procedure that removes nuclear material from the pollen, leaving only a distinct pollen “skeleton”. Acetolyzed pollen is easier to confidently identify to a higher taxonomic resolution.
